Citizens Advice East Herts is an independent, trusted and well-known local charity, and a member of the national Citizens Advice network.

We provide a free, independent and impartial advice and information service for anyone who needs it. East Herts is a large semi-rural district, and ensuring all residents can access quality advice is one of our top priorities.

Whatever the problem, no matter how big or small,
we are here to help you find a way forward.

Our History

East Herts saw its first local Citizens Advice office open in Ware in 1940, and additional offices were established 30 years later in Hertford and Bishop’s Stortford, with Buntingford (previously an outreach of Royston) becoming an independent office in 1991.

The offices came together as one organisation in 2005. Today, our main office is based in Buntingford, while the team operate from homes and hubs across the district, with community locations including Bishop’s Stortford, Hertford and Ware.

What we do

Our advice service covers a variety of topics. Our tailored approach is based on individual need. We might provide targeted information and web links in a short phonecall, make a home visit to complete a benefits form, see a client in a community location, or support a client with 12 weeks of casework.

Our community workshops address issues such as energy and scams, and our research informs local campaigns on important issues to make policies and practices better for everyone – see our Campaigns page for more details.

Our People

We have an amazing team of staff and volunteers. Most are local people and they all understand the needs of East Herts residents.

Our advisers train in-depth for a year or more to acquire the skills and knowledge they need to give you consistant high quality advice supported by experienced supervisors. The advice service is underpinned by back office functions and our comms, training, community engagement and research and campaigns teams. Meet our people here.

Our Mission Statement

‘Meet Client Needs – Now and in the Future’

We do this by providing the advice that people need for the problems that they face and improving the policies and practices that affect people’s lives. Our Business and Development Plan sets out how we will develop our service over the next two years.
